Owen advises a select group of entrepreneurs and family-office clients, drawing on more than a decade of wealth management experience. He has significant experience with issues specific to company founders and early employees, such as founder’s stock and options management, taxation, estate and trust design, and philanthropic planning. He advises clients on secondary market liquidity, angel investing, single stock hedging strategies, and portfolio management.
Prior to founding Brainard Capital in 2004, Owen worked for several global and regional investment banks, including Credit Suisse and UBS, managing investments for domestic and offshore clients in the areas of private equity, hedge funds, and global asset allocation strategies. Owen began his career as a venture capital finance attorney, working with two of the largest and most active venture capital funds in the U.S.
Owen holds a JD from Georgetown University Law Center in Washington, DC, where he was a member of the Georgetown Law Journal, and a BA in Conservation Biology/Environmental Studies from Middlebury College in Vermont.
